The Killing Fields tells the real-life story of a friendship between two journalists, an American and a Cambodian, during the bloody Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia in 1975, which led to the death of 2-3 million Cambodians during the next four years, until Pol Pot’s regime was toppled by the intervening Vietnamese in 1979.

The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick is a 1972 German language drama film directed by Wim Wenders. It was adapted from a novella by Wenders’ long-time collaborator Peter Handke. A goalkeeper is sent off during a game for committing a foul. He spends the night with a cinema cashier, whom he afterwards kills. Although a type of detective film, it is more slow moving and contemplative than other films of the genre. It explores the monotony of the murderer’s existence and, like many of Wenders’ films, the overwhelming cultural influence of America in post-war West Germany.

Raised in a broken home, Cody (Tim Torok) is a troubled man with a history of addictions and crime. While Cody serves time in the county jail, his mother, Pam (Penny Carlisi), begins to question her faith as she suffers constant grief from watching Cody’s poor choices.
